500 skiers to participate in 5th National winter games in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 2 (UNI) About 500 sportsmen and women from all over the country are expected to participate in the 5th national winter games, being held on the slopes of world famous ski resort Gulmarg, from February 17.

Snow skiing, ice skating, ice hockey, Nordic cross country and snow boarding events besides the ride on Gandola would be the main events during the six-day long games.

All the arrangements for smooth conduct of the events were finalised in a meeting of the concerned departments, under the chairmanship of Baramulla Deputy Commissioner Baseer Ahmad Wani, an official spokesman said.

He said it was informed that uninterrupted water and electric supply would be ensured for which generators and tankers would be made available.

The teams of doctors, ambulances and medicines was assured by Chief Medical Officer. Temporary sale centres for supply of food grains, Kerosene oil and cooking gas would also be opened and telephone services improved to the best satisfaction of subscribers.

Two snow cutters will work round the clock during the games for clearance of entire road leading to Gulmarg.
