7,000 policemen to be deployed during CYG 2008 inauguration

Pune, Oct 4 (UNI) Around 7,000 Policemen will be deployed during the inaugural and valedictory ceremony of the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) 2008, to be held from October 12 to 18.

Additional Commissioner of Police, Rajendra Singh told UNI that a total 7,000 policemen from the city will be on duty, however 300 more security officials have also be demanded from outside the city.

Apart from this, State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and paramilitary forces will also be deployed, Mr Singh added.

Spectators can not carry their mobile phones inside the Balewadi Sports Complex during the inaugural and valedictory ceremonies of the Youth Commonwealth Games. Other than mobiles, cameras, water bottles, bags, eatables and match boxes will also be banned. Vehicle going towards the stadium will be thoroughly checked and nakabandi points have already been identified, Mr Singh added.

Police have marked four parking lots near the stadium and citizen are requested to park their vehicle there. Special buses will be provide from the parking lot to the stadium.

A team of 50 trained police personnel, attached to the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) of the city police, will be ready to handle in any untoward incident during the event, Singh said.

''We have five BDDS teams and have arranged for five additional teams from the Director General of Police. The additional staff will remain on duty to the BDDS till the games are over on October 18,'' he stated.
