75th Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament: Amit Panghal and Sachin Shine as India Finsh with Eight Medals

Sofia, Bulgaria - Feb 12: India concluded its campaign at the prestigious 75th Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria, on a high note, clinching a total of eight medals on Sunday (February 11).

Among the standout performers were Commonwealth Games gold medallist Amit Panghal and national champion Sachin, who showcased stellar performances to secure gold medals in their respective weight categories.

Amit Panghal, competing in the 51kg category, delivered a breathtaking performance by outclassing reigning world champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay with a stunning 5-0 victory.

Throughout the tournament, Amit displayed impeccable precision and speed in his attacks, maintaining dominance over his opponents with his trademark jab and left hook. His relentless aggression and unwavering focus earned him a well-deserved gold medal, marking his fourth consecutive unanimous decision win in the competition.

Similarly, Sachin, representing in the 57kg category, demonstrated remarkable resilience and skill in his final bout against Uzbekistan's Shakhzod Muzafarov. Despite a cautious start, Sachin gradually asserted his dominance, utilising his height advantage to secure a convincing 5-0 victory and claim the gold medal.

While Amit and Sachin celebrated their triumphs, other Indian pugilists showcased commendable performances, securing silver and bronze medals in their respective categories.

Nikhat Zareeh Settles For A Silver

Notably, reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen exhibited exceptional determination in her closely contested final against Uzbekistan's Sabina Bobokulova, ultimately settling for silver after a hard-fought battle.

Arundhati Choudhary, Barun Singh Shagolshem, and Rajat also demonstrated remarkable resilience and skill in their respective bouts, narrowly missing out on gold but showcasing outstanding performances nonetheless.

The 75th Strandja Memorial Tournament, known as one of Europe's oldest international sports competitions, witnessed the participation of over 300 pugilists from 30 countries.
