Abhishek begins favourite at LG Jaypee Open

Greater Noida, Apr 28 (UNI) In-form Abhishek Jha begins as a firm favourite when a star-studded field tees off in the LG Jaypee Open here tomorrow.

Abhishek, who scripted a fine win in the LG ITC Classic Open, will be challenged by the likes of No 1 on the IGU Order of Merit Manav Das, No 3 Simarjeet Singh and No 4 Gagan Verma.

''The win at Classic has boosted my confidence. My game has really shaped up during the off-season,'' Abhishek said on the eve of the event.

''My plan would be to keep it simple and play it hole by hole and round by round rather than apply any kind of strategy,'' added the No.2 on the IGU Order of Merit.

The other contenders include Jasjeet Singh, Tarun Ghogale, Vikram Rana and HS Kang amongst others.

In a newly introduced pre-qualifying round, as many as 81 players (40 from the merit list and the rest from qualifying round) will tee it up in the event which forms the second leg of the LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour.

The four-day stroke play event forms the second leg of the LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour.
