Ace discus thrower Harwant Kaur goes to Australia

Patiala, Aug 21 (UNI) Ace Indian Discus thrower, Olympian Harwant Kaur of Punjab Police has left the ongoing national athletic coaching camp here at the NIS, to go to Australia.

Harwant Kaur, national champion in Discus a couple of times, shot into prominence when she hurled the metal disc to a distance of 63.05M to win the gold medal in a competition in Khiev, Ukraine, in 2004 before participating in 2004 Athens Olympics.

The 24-year-old stout Punjab athlete left the camp on August 19 to stay with her aunt in Melbourne. She is also expected to undergo training there for next year's Olympic Games in Beijing to represent India, if selected, sources here said.

She had been training here at the NIS under SAI athletics coach Parveer Singh for quite sometime.
