Aditya beats Saboo for snooker title

By Staff

Mumbai, Nov 29 (UNI) Chembur Gymkhana's Aditya Mehta rallied to beat Bombay Gymkhana's Amit Saboo 4-2 in their concluding four-man senior snooker semi-final round robin league to clinch the title in the Matunga Gymkhana Maharashtra State Selection 2007 Billiards&Snooker Tournament, at the Matunga Gymkhana here today.

Both went into their best-of-seven frames contest with two wins each as Mehta got off to a good start by snatching the opening frame.

Saboo is no pushover and true to his reputation he ignored the early deficit to surprise Mehta by clinching the second and third frames for a 2-1 lead.

But Mehta, on a roll in the competition after enjoying good form and claiming the senior billiards title as well, struck back to draw level. He then cleared the table for a brilliant unfinished break of 66 to forge ahead 3-2 and sealed victory with a comfortable sixth frame for a 64-11, 53-54, 24-69, 52-32, 90-33, 70-15 win.

Mehta and Saboo thus qualified to represent Maharashtra in the forthcoming Nationals at Hyderabad.

Joining Mehta in the state billiards squad is P.J. Hindu Gymkhana's Chandresh Shah, who pipped V. Subramaniam and Arun Agrawal in a tight finish for the second spot.
