Aditya steals the show in All India Amateur Golf

Chandigarh, Jan 16 (UNI) Jaipur lad 55th seed Aditya Singh recorded the biggest upset of the day when he sent 10th seed Chien Yao Hung from Chinese Taipei crashing in the first round of the 107th LG Indian Open Amateur Golf Championship at the par-72 Chandigarh Golf Championship here today.

Kanishk Madan, seeded 31st stunned Pakistan's top ranked player Adil Jahangir while 62nd seed Siddharth Seth showed third seed Rudresh Sharma the door. Arshdeep Tiwana seeded 37th, toppled defending champion Prabagaran of Sri Lanka while 60th seeded IK Ponappa out-lasted fifth seed local lad Ajeetesh Sandhu.

Top seed Jamal Mollah of Bangaldesh and his second-seeded compatriot Shahid, fourth seed Rahul Bakshi, seventh seed Abhijit Chadha, eighth seed Pawan Kumar and ninth seed Amanjyot Singh registered easy victories to advance to the next round.

Aditya Singh could not have asked for a better start than a series of pars on the first four holes. Chien Yao Hung, who had represented Chinese Taipei in the last Asian Games could not even break par on the first four holes, giving a 4-up advantage to the Indian. However the Taipei amateur reduced the margin on the sixth hole, thanks to a double bogey by Aditya. The status remained the same until the 10th where Hung made a par against a bogey by Aditya to further reduce the margin 2-0.

Aditya then made two superb birdies on the 13th and 14th to regain a 4-up lead. Even though he lost the next hole, he squared the 16th with a par to win 3 and 2.

Kanishk Madan made a birdie to go one up against Adil Jahangir.

Kanishk made a par on the next hole to go 2-up and by the fourth he was 3-up.

After both halved the next two holes, Kanishk won the next two holes by the virtue of pars against a hapless Adil who strayed most part of the time. On the back nine, Kanishk increased the lead to 6-up. The Pakistani pulled one back on the 12th winning it by making a birdie. But that was only a formality as the 17-year-old from Modern School Vasant Vihar New Delhi birdied the 13th to seal the issue 6 and 5.
