AFI forms five-member team to look into athlete''s allegations

Ranchi, February 18 (PTI) The Athletics Federation ofIndia (AFI) today formed a five-member committee to probe intoallegations of molestation by Uttar Pradesh sprinter PriyankaPanwar.

The athlete had accused AFI technical official Anu Kumarof molesting her for the last four years, on the sidelines ofthe ongoing 34th National Games.

"Senior vice-president of AFI, K Ranga Rao, will head thecommittee which will have to submit the report within 15days," officiating secretary of the AFI, Ravinder Chaudhary,told PTI.

Earlier, Priyanka, who is here to compete in the Games,said that she had lodged a formal complaint with her stateassociation, though the AFI claimed ignorance.

"I have conveyed this matter to our Uttar Pradeshassociation. I''ve full faith on the association members andI''m sure justice will prevail," Priyanka, who had won the 100mbronze yesterday, told PTI in the Athletics Village today.

But the AFI said they were yet to get an officialcomplaint against the said official.

"We are hearing this from the media reports only. If shehas complained it to the UP Olympics Association, then itmight reach us. Based on the reports we had called theemergency meeting today," Chaudhary said.

UPOA''s general secretary, Anandeshwar Pandey, told PTIthat he had a word with the athlete.

"I told her if she has any problem she must write to us.

Being a part of UP''s contingent we are responsible for her.

But as of now she has not written anything on this matter,"Pandey said.
