After ULFA, weather disrupts National Games preparations

Guwahati, Feb 5 (UNI) After ULFA, now the weather is all set to play spoilsport at the 33rd National Games, to begin from February nine here.

Unseasonal rain for the past three days along with icy winds have created havoc here. Causing immense hardship for both the organisers and the athelets, who have come from all over the country braving the ULFA threat.

The Met office had predicted more rainfall for the next three days.

There are reports of severe water logging at all the venues with maximum damage to the boxing ring and the temporary gates erected to welcome the athletes.

Sources said the organisers are running against time to complete the preparation amidst reports of chaos from almost all the sporting complexes.

The athletes are temporarily placed in the Guwahati circuit house as some problem has cropped up in the Games village. Punjab and Karnataka teams have already arrived and all others would reach by tomorrow, sources added.

The rehearsals for the opening ceremony has been disturbed by the weather while complete confusion prevails amongst the school children, who are participating in the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, the security has reached a frenzy level after the car bomb attack by the ULFA yesterday.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also said the intelligence reports have stated that ULFA would try to disturb the event.
