Bengaluru, February 14: Ex-Invicta titleholder Livia Renata Souza withdraws from this weekend's women's strawweight bout against former WSOF champion Jessica Aguilar due to injury.
Souza pulled from this Sunday's UFC Fight Night 126 main card due to a right hand injury and Aguilar is not expected to get a replacement opponent as its just few days left before the event, so she's also been removed from the card.
"Everything happens for a reason," Aguilar said to MMA Fighting. "You always see the good in things, even when it's not a good situation. It will help you stay focused and overcome whatever it is you going through. I appreciate all the support from my fans, and excited to show that I'm still one of the top fighters in my division."
The UFC, however, don't want to wait longer to reschedule this bout and are looking to rebook this matchup for UFC on FOX 28 (February 24) or UFC 222 (March 3), which indicates it's not a long-term injury that Souza has suffered.
Having fought twice in UFC since signing in 2015, Aguilar has suffered decision losses to Claudia Gadelha and Cortney Casey. Her most notable wins in MMA include two decisions over women's legend Megami Fujii, as well as a split decision against Carla Esparza.
While, Souza won the Invicta FC's 115-pound championship in 2015 and defended it successfully once before losing the title to Angela Hill. After consecutive wins over Ayaka Hamasaki and Janaisa Morandin, the Brazilian was slated to make her UFC debut, but unfortunately it will not be this weekend.
UFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs. Medeiros (UFC Fight Night 126) headlined by a welterweight fight between Donald Cerrone and Yancy Medeiros will be held on Sunday (February 18) at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, United States.
While, it is still unclear which preliminary card fight will be moved to the main card after this women's strawweight bout was cancelled.
