Ahmedabad boxers create ruckus

Rajkot, July 16 (UNI) The 32nd Gujarat State Senior Men's Amateur Boxing tournament has been cancelled following unsavoury behaviour by the Ahmedabad boxers.

The event at Veer Savarkar Indoor staudium, organised by Rajkot District Boxing Association, took an ugly turn yesterday, when few boxers from Ahmedabad allegedly demanded disqualification of boxers from Surat as they alleged some of them belonged to another state.

Things went out of control when Ahmedabad boxers refused to participate in the event before going on rampage damaging the boxing rings, forcing the organisation to call off the event, Ketan Trivedi, Joint Secretary State Amateur Boxing Association told UNI today.

''It was an unsporting act on the part of Ahmedabad players and coach,'' Trivedi said.

Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat, Gandhinagar, Mehsana and Rajkot were participating in the tournament, he added.

UNI
