Aichi-Nagoya Games Prep To Propel Indian Esports Trends In 2024

In 2023, the Indian Esports industry witnessed unprecedented growth, paving the way for a promising 2024 characterized by a burgeoning player base and substantial revenue generation.

The announcement of Esports as a medal sport for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games has spurred the country's gaming community into action, preparing to showcase their talent on the global stage.

Lokesh Suji, Director of Esports Federation of India and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation, underscored the importance of Esports at the Asian Games, emphasizing its recognition as a mainstream sport internationally.

Suji outlined the Esports Federation's commitment to creating a robust ecosystem, from organizing national qualifiers to providing top-notch gaming gear and coaching through partnerships with Hama and FITGMR.

The positive momentum in the Esports sector is set to continue, marked by increasing participation and support from various states.

This includes the establishment of dedicated academies, integration of Esports into educational curriculums, and the organization of tournaments. Suji expressed optimism that such initiatives would expand Esports' footprint within the broader sporting landscape.

Animesh Agarwal, Founder & CEO of 8Bit Creatives and Co-Founder of S8UL, predicted that strategic collaborations within the gaming industry would drive sector growth in 2024.

He anticipated a surge in India-specific games, exemplified by titles like Indus Battle Royale, incorporating the nation's diverse culture. Agarwal also highlighted the expected implementation of Esports programs, degrees, and scholarships by educational institutions, aligning with the government's push to promote gaming.

Naman Mathur (Mortal), Co-founder of S8UL, emphasized the deepening involvement of brands in gaming, citing examples like MG's Comet and IQOO partnering with Team Soul.

He also pointed to technological trends such as AI integration and Metaverse gaming, foreseeing a future where virtual worlds seamlessly merge with gaming narratives.

The "Leveling up: State of India Gaming FY'23" report projected significant growth in India's gaming market, reaching $3.1 billion in FY23 and anticipated to hit $7.5 billion by FY28, growing at a CAGR of 20%.

Overall, the Indian Esports sector is poised for substantial expansion in 2024, fueled by strategic collaborations, India-specific games, and increasing brand involvement.
