Aiyar unveils PYKKA to improve sports infrastructure in rural India

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mani Shankar Aiyar unveiled an ambitious progaramme to take sports to the grassroot level with the launch of Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) here today.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has already approved the proposal as the scheme aims at providing basic sports infrastructure at the panchayat level over a period of 10 years through concerted efforts of all stkeholders, particularly the State Governments, panchayats, educational institutes.

Under the PYKKA, each village Panchayat and each Block Panchayat would be given one time seed capital grant of Rs one lakh and Rs five lakh, respectively.

The state share in the scheme will be 25 per cent for normal states and 10 per cent for special category states.

The Planning Commission has allocated Rs 1,500 crores for the 11th Plan period. The total requirement of funds for the entire programme has estimated at approximately Rs 5,000 crores.
