A'ja Wilson Becomes WNBA's Fastest Player To Reach 6,000 Points
Breanna Stewart, Caitlin Clark and Aja Wilson all delivered major performances on June 9, 2026, as the WNBA schedule featured key Commissioners Cup contests and a milestone night that reshaped individual records and tightened early-season standings across both conferences.
The New York Liberty, Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces each claimed important victories, with Stewart leading New York to a fifth straight win, Clark hitting a late game-winner for Indiana, and Wilson becoming the fastest player in league history to reach 6,000 career points.

New York extended its surge in WNBA Commissioners Cup play by defeating the Connecticut Sun 89-80, moving to 3-0 in the competition and 8-4 overall. The win also marked the Liberty’s fifth consecutive success and kept New York on top of the Eastern Conference standings in the league’s in-season tournament.
Stewart guided the Liberty with 28 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals against Connecticut. Han Xu supplied 14 points, six rebounds and two blocks, while Betnijah Laney-Hamilton added 11 points and five boards for New York. The Liberty continue to pursue another appearance in the WNBA Commissioners Cup championship game after previous deep runs.
Connecticut, now 2-11 overall and 0-3 in WNBA Commissioners Cup play, received 15 points each from Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Aaliyah Edwards. The Sun, who lost the inaugural Commissioners Cup final to the Seattle Storm in 2021, remain without a tournament win this season and sit at the bottom of the current competition table.

The teams with the best tournament records in each conference will contest the championship game on June 30. The Liberty lifted the trophy in 2023 before falling to the Minnesota Lynx in the title clash the following season.
WNBA milestones and team records
Outside Commissioners Cup competition, Aja Wilson powered the Las Vegas Aces past the Seattle Storm 101-91 and reached a major WNBA milestone. Wilson scored 34 points and became the fastest player in league history to accumulate 6,000 career points.
The four-time league MVP hit the 6,000-point mark in her 278th WNBA appearance, surpassing Diana Taurasi’s previous record of 291 games. Wilson also added 12 rebounds, nine assists and three blocks as Las Vegas continued a strong run of early-season form.
{TABLE_3}Jackie Young backed Wilson with 29 points, helping the Aces improve their record to 8-3. The result extended Las Vegas’ momentum and confirmed the team’s status among the leading contenders in the league, even though this matchup did not count towards the current WNBA Commissioners Cup schedule.
Seattle slipped to 3-10 overall and 1-6 away from home after the defeat. Dominique Malonga topped the Storm scoring with 17 points, while Jewell Loyd, facing the former team again, finished with five points on 2-for-7 shooting as Seattle’s offence fell short of Las Vegas’ balance.
Across the league on June 9, 2026, Stewart’s scoring burst, Clark’s late three-pointer and Wilson’s historic milestone shaped a notable night in the WNBA, with the Liberty and Fever strengthening their WNBA Commissioners Cup campaigns and the Aces adding another win behind a record-breaking display.
