UFC Flyweight Champion Alexa Grasso, from Mexico - the first ever woman from her country to hold such a position, is set to put her title on the line against former champion Valentina Shevchenko.
This crucial battle is scheduled to unfold on Saturday, September 16, at UFC's 2023 Noche event in Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena. Ahead of this face-off, she has been honoured with a distinct 'Tribe Belt #1’.

Facing Shevchenko is not new to Grasso; their first battleground was UFC 285, where Grasso emerged victorious and claimed the championship title. This time, they will compete again, with the Tribe Belt #1 at stake.
The belt's presentation marks UFC's tribute to Mexican Independence, symbolised through an event named UFC Noche. The coveted UFC hardware represents the victors who have showcased their superior abilities through intense competition.
The Tribe Belt #1 embodies a tribute to the women leaders who have braved the challenges of life and pursued their path despite facing adversities. Here is a look at how the belt was designed:
Renowned craft house, Taller Jacobo y María Ángeles, has crafted the belt, incorporating elements of pre-Hispanic Mexican culture inherent in Mixtec/Zapotec societies. The heart of its design represents the journey to victory and the values associated with it - skill, bravery, competence, and discipline.
These are signified by the artistry used in its creation; the house depicts the workshop, the fish symbolises protection, the human represents respect, butterflies stand for people, wind signifies happiness, moving rattles represent maximum power.
The belt verbalises the notion that success and failure, delight and despair are antithetical yet complementary facets. It's accompanying colours epitomise this philosophy, and together they represent a dual existence within a single entity - the belt.
As the Tribe Belt #1 aims to extol the valor and audacity of the leader who puts her competencies to test, it also endeavours to bring reality to the champion's responsibilities with how the wearer carries her past victories, defeats, joys, and sorrows on her shoulders, literally encased in the trophy.
