All set for fourth WMG 2007

Hyderabad, Oct 11 (UNI)The city all set to host the fourth Military World Games(WMG), 2007, with the completion of additional infrastructure and minor repair works of the stadiums.

Talking to mediapersons, Vice-Chairman of the Infrastructure Committee for WMG 2007 Brigadier R Suresh said, ''The Army and the State Government completed the construction and repair works a on war footing to keep infrastructure ready for the biggest sporting event on Indian soil, with 103 countries participants and five observers.'' Earlier, he took the mediapersons around the infrastructure created for the WMG at Artillery Centre, Golconda near here. It now had the infrastructure facilities for pentathlon, shooting, judo hall, football and cross country.

He said WMG would be thrown open for the public on all days, on first come first serve basis. Keeping in view of the rush of VIPs for the colourful opening and closing ceremonies, organisers were regulating the stream of spectators with passes.

Meanwhile, football had started four days before the actual opening ceremony.

Favourites Brazil handed out 3-0 defeat on India while defending champions Egypt thrashed Guinea 3-0, Ireland blanked Canada 4-0 and Qatar crushed Afghanistan 7-1. DPR Korea, however, fought bravely for a goalless draw against Cameroon.

With a day's rest, matches would resume tomorrow with Egypt taking on Canada, Ireland facing Guinea, Afghanistan facing Brazil and Germany facing Cameroon.
