Alyssa Thomas Makes WNBA History With Third Consecutive Triple-Double In Mercury Win

Alyssa Thomas recorded her 19th career triple-double, becoming the first player in WNBA history to achieve three consecutive triple-doubles. The Phoenix Mercury defeated the Indiana Fever 95-60, marking their third straight win.

The Phoenix Mercury triumphed over the Indiana Fever with a decisive 95-60 victory on Thursday night. Alyssa Thomas was the standout performer, making history by becoming the first player in WNBA history to record three consecutive triple-doubles. She achieved this feat with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, marking her 19th career triple-double. No other player in league history has more than four.

Thomas secured her latest triple-double with just under four minutes left, assisting DeWanna Bonner on a three-pointer. Over her last three games, Thomas has amassed 41 points, 33 rebounds, and 32 assists. "It's just a huge honour," Thomas remarked. "A lot of credit to my team-mates. They helped me get this one tonight. But to be first ever, not a lot of people can say that about anything."

Thomas Sets Triple-Double Record for Mercury

DeWanna Bonner led the Mercury with a season-high 23 points. Satou Sabally contributed significantly with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Kahleah Copper added 11 points to the tally. This victory marked Phoenix's third-largest winning margin in franchise history and improved their record to 19-11, matching their total wins from last season.

Reflecting on the team's recent performances, Thomas said, "We're just leaning into each other. We've had a lot of adversity this season, injuries and things of that nature. I think we're just starting to hit our second wind." In locker room footage shared on social media, Thomas expressed gratitude towards her team-mates: "Real talk, I couldn't have got that without you all. I appreciate you allowing me to do that."

The Indiana Fever faced disappointment after their second straight loss following five consecutive wins. Small forward Sophie Cunningham addressed their injury challenges post-game: "We faced some adversity with injuries this game, but we are used to that; we had that at the beginning of the year. This is just another hump that we are going to get over, and we're going to be okay."

The Mercury's commanding win highlights their potential as they continue to build momentum despite earlier setbacks this season. The team's resilience and collective effort have been pivotal in overcoming challenges and achieving success on the court.
