Amanjyot emerges leader to extend lead at LG RGC Golf

Jaipur, Jan 10 (UNI) Amanjyot Singh signed a card of 1-under 69 for a three-day total of 2-under 208 to lead in the LG Rambagh Golf Club Golf Championship at the Rambagh Golf Club here today.

The local lad who is looking for his first title at his home course emerged as the leader and extended his lead to five shots.

Saurabh Bahuguna was second at 213 after signing a card of one-over 73 while Tarun Ghogale and Rahul Bajaj were tied for the third place at 216.

Simarjeet Singh was fifth at 218 while Moin Malak, Shubam Jindal and Karan Vasudev were tied for the sixth place at 219.

Amanjyot whose iron-play was getting worse as the rounds progressed began with a birdie sinking a 15-footer birdie putt.

However, he lost the stroke on the very next hole but luck favoured him on the par-4 third where his approach shot fell short of the green. His chip went straight into the hole.

He made two more birdies on the fifth and eighth before making a bogey on the ninth to finish his forward journey at two-under par.

His strong point of the day was his putting but lost his way on most of the fairways but made a comeback to save pars.

With some great putts, he managed birdies on the 12th and 15th and a birdie sandwiched between the two bogeys on the 16th and 18th.

Meanwhile, Saurabh who emerged second, began with a bogey on the par-3 fourth but made it up with a superb birdie on the seventh.

He was looking good but he made a mistake on the par-5 eighth that costed him one stroke as he took the turn at 1-over.

On the back nine a bogey on the 13th was followed by a bogey on the next hole. Another bogey on the 16th put him at 3-over for the day and a second position.

Amanjyot, later admitted that it was difficult to control the shots as it was too windy and added that he could have done better had he not missed on the 18th.

''It was too windy out there and it was difficult to control the ball and my clubbing came short.

''I missed a small putt on the 18th else I could have been six shots clear. I am looking forward to the title,'' said Amanjyot.
