Amateurs set to tee off at LG Samarvir Sahi tomorrow

By Staff

New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) A strong field will be seen in action as the LG Samarvir Sahi Amateur is all set to tee off at the Chandigarh Golf Club tomorrow.

All the top players have confirmed their participation and the battle will begin once again for the LG Order of Merit title.

The list is headed by Gagan Verma but young Rashid Khan would look to continue his strong run which saw him win the LG Golden Greens Amateur and the LG Northern India Amateur with comfortable ease.

Presently at eighth place, Rashid has quickly moved up the list despite not having played nine tournaments on the national tour which are taken into account to determine the total number of points accumulated in the season.

With the action returning to the national tour, the players would be looking to leave a mark at the LG Samarvir Sahi Amateur.

The tournament is an important stop on the tour calendar, played each year in the memory of Chandigarh golfer Samarvir Sahi.

He was a contemporary of Jeev Milkha Singh and was considered a very bright prospect but unfortunately lost his life to cancer.

In his honour the Chandigarh Golf Club has instituted this event and the tournament is held in high regard by the players.

Last year the tournament was won by local lad H S Kang, an experienced player on the circuit. He would be looking to defend his title this year but should expect stiff challenge from the young players coming through on tour.
