Amoj Jacob is an Indian track and field athlete, recognized for his prowess in the 400m, 800m, and relay events. Born in Thellakam, Kerala, he stands at a height of 5 feet 10½ inches.

Jacob gained significant attention for his participation in the Commonwealth Games 2022 held in Birmingham, England, where he secured a spot on the relay team.

Early Life and Education

Jacob was born and raised in Kochi, Kerala. His educational journey includes attending SGTB Khalsa College, where he has balanced his academic pursuits with his athletic career. Jacob's journey in athletics began with a passion for football during his childhood. His talent was noticed by Arvind Kapoor, a physical trainer at his school, who encouraged him to specialize as a sprinter.

Personal Life

Despite facing financial challenges at home, with his father unemployed since 2017 and his mother working as a nurse, Amoj has taken on the responsibility of supporting his family. He has a younger sister who is currently in college. Amoj follows a personal ritual of reciting a prayer before participating in any race and maintains a positive outlook on competition, stating that he does not dwell on losses.

Athletic Career

Jacob's athletic career began with a focus on the 100m sprint, but he transitioned to the 400m and 800m events under the guidance of his coach. He achieved notable success early on, winning the boy's 800m event at the 4th Junior Federation Cup National Athletics Championship in 2016.

Over the years, he has participated in various prestigious competitions, including the Asian Junior Championship, Asian Athletics Championships, Commonwealth Games, and the Tokyo Olympics. In 2021, he won multiple events at the Indian Grand Prix and was recruited by the Bank of India under the sports quota. At the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian team set new Asian and National Records with a time of 3:00.25.

Despite facing injuries, he made a remarkable comeback, competing in the 2023 World Athletics Championships, where he and his team secured fifth place in the 4x400m relay final, marking India's first appearance in this event's final at the championships.
He holds the current Asian Record in the 4x400m relay. Jacob has also set national records in the junior boys 'U20 400m event and has participated in multiple international competitions, further establishing his reputation as a prominent figure in Indian athletics.
