Anand overwhelms Svidler Chorus Chess

Wijk Aan Zee, Holland, Jan 18 (UNI) Defending champion Viswanathan Anand used the advantage of white to the hilt as he decimated Russian Grandmaster Peter Svidler in no time and gain a full point in the fifth round of the Chorus Chess Tournament here today.

Eyeing his sixth title here, Anand orchestrated his moves to perfection and it took him just 21 of them to bring the Russian down on his knees.

After five rounds Anand aggregates three and a half points with two wins and three draws.

In other Group A fifth round matches, Russian Grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik played out a draw with Ruslan Ponomariov of Ukraine while Levon Aronian of Armenia also had to split points with talented Norwegian GM Magnus Carlsen.
