Andaman girl wins medals in Karate Championship

Port Blair, Sep 29 (UNI) Puja Dhar of Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) islands notched up a gold and a silver medal in the 22nd National Karate Championship, organised by All India Karatedo Federation (AIKF), held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata from September 25 to 28.

Andaman and Nicobar State Olympic Association president G Bhaskar told UNI that this was the second time an islander had secured medals in the National Karate Championship.

The Association's General Secretary V A Shiyad also commended Puja for her performance.

Earlier, Jageshwar Majhi of Andaman &Nicobar police won a silver medal in the individual Shiai event in the 18th AIKF National Karate Championship held at Mumbai from March 22 to 31, 2003.
