Andhra Pradesh enters quarters

Vijayawada, Apr 18 (UNI) Hosts Andhra Pradesh and Orissa today entered the quarterfinals of the under-18 junior National Hockey Championship at Guntur.

Earlier in a Pool-A league match, Orissa defeated Patiala 6-2.

Orissa, which was leading 4-1 in the first half scored the remaining two goals in the second session, during which Patiala also scored their lone goal.

For Orissa Lalit Baxia scored three goals in the 30th, 40th, 57th minutes, while Aijub Ekka, Sainik Oram and Belsajar Horo scored one goal each in the 14th, 15th and 17th minute, respectively.

In a Pool-G match Andhra Pradesh defeated Maharashtra 1-0, after both the sides failed to open their account at the half time.

Andhra Pradesh captain S Sandeep Raju right in-side scored the goal in the 41st minute by receiving a pass from Krishna Kishore from right extreme.

Jitendra (goal keeper) of Andhra Pradesh saved two tremendous shots by Maharashtra. Though Andhra secured eight penalty corner shots and Maharashtra two, all went in vain.

In another Pool-B and Pool-C matches, Jharkand beat Kerala 7-2 and Combined SAI defeated Hyderabad 5-0, resepectively to enter the last eight.

The Jharkand team was leading the game with 4-1 during the half time period. For Jharkand, Lacchu Dodrai scored five goals in the eighth, 11th, 28th, 45th and 52nd minute while Praveen and Markus scored one goal each in the fourth and 64th minute.

Combined SAI's Munish Rana scored three goals in the second, 16th and 17th minute. Gurvender and Azam Baig scored one goal each in the 52nd and 64th minute.

Combined SAI which was leading 3-0 in the first session managed to get the next two goals in the second session.

However, Hyderabad failed to open the account.
