Angel Reese Becomes Fastest WNBA Player To Reach 1,000 Rebounds In 79 Games

Angel Reese reached another historic mark while the Atlanta Dream stayed hot, beating the Indiana Fever 113-96 and stretching a winning run to three games, as the Phoenix Mercury and Dallas Wings also claimed victories in a busy WNBA schedule.

The Dream improved to 11-4 with a second win over the Fever in three days, following a 108-101 road success on Thursday, while Indiana slipped to 9-7 despite a team-best 26 points from Clark.

Reese Becomes Fastest to 1000 Rebounds

Reese became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 1,000 career rebounds, hitting the mark in only 79 games, which was 10 games faster than previous record holder Tina Charles, and the 6-foot-4 forward closed with 18 points and eight rebounds in the latest victory.

WNBA game Score Winning team record Losing team record
Atlanta Dream vs Indiana Fever 113-96 Dream 11-4 Fever 9-7
Phoenix Mercury vs Seattle Storm 93-73 Mercury 5-12 Storm 3-14
Dallas Wings vs Chicago Sky 93-92 Wings 10-6 Sky 4-11

Reese grabbed the landmark rebound with 4:29 left in the third quarter and continued a dominant season on the glass, leading the WNBA at 11.9 rebounds per game, while Rhyne Howard scored 24 points and Allisha Gray added 22 as Atlanta posted a franchise record for points in a single game.

The Dream’s win came before 17,044 fans at State Farm Arena, home court of the NBA’s Hawks, one of five dates Atlanta scheduled there this season rather than at the usual venue, Gateway Center Arena in College Park, which holds 5,000 spectators.

In the Western Conference, the Phoenix Mercury ended a four-game slide with a 93-73 home win over the Seattle Storm, using a 14-0 burst to begin the third quarter to take control and move to 5-12 while handing Seattle a 10th straight defeat that dropped the Storm to 3-14.

Valeriane Ayayi produced 18 points and 10 rebounds for Phoenix, while Noemie Brochant finished with 16 points and 10 assists and Natasha Mack added 10 points and 10 rebounds, as Kahleah Copper contributed 17 points; on the other side, Natisha Hiedeman led Seattle with 20 points, rookie Flau'jae Johnson scored 13, and Dominique Malonga plus reserve Zia Cooke each scored 10.

WNBA: Dallas Wings edge Chicago Sky

The tightest finish of the night came in Dallas, where the Wings overturned a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Chicago Sky 93-92, taking their first lead when Li Yueru hit two free throws with 12.5 seconds remaining as Dallas improved to 10-6 and extended a home winning streak to six games.

Jessica Shepard drove the comeback with 21 points, including 17 after half-time, while also collecting eight rebounds, as Paige Bueckers added 19 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds, scoring 10 of 11 points for Dallas in one key spell, with rookie Azzi Fudd contributing 13 points and Arike Ogunbowale scoring 12 to match the Wings’ win total from last season.

Chicago fell to 4-11 despite a strong display from Kamilla Cardoso, who posted 26 points and nine rebounds, but the Sky suffered a fifth straight defeat as the defence could not hold during Dallas’s late surge.

The results left Reese’s rebounding record as the headline moment from a busy WNBA slate, with Atlanta strengthening playoff ambitions, Phoenix halting a slide, Seattle and Chicago continuing difficult runs, and Dallas maintaining an impressive home stretch while already equalling last season’s win tally.
