Anirudh Bhat leads after seventh round of Parsvnath chess tourney

New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) Anirudh Bhat grabbed the pole position with six and half points after the seventh round of the Parsvnath 22nd National Under-9 Open Chess Championship here today.

Playing white side of Sicilian Defence, Anirudh halted the winning run of R U Anatharam of Karnataka in 37 moves.

In the second table, top seed Arjun Bharat of Karnataka signed the peace treaty against second seed Hetul Shah of Gujarat after 45 moves.

A pack of five players including overnight leader R U Anathram and local favourite Harshal Shahi were trailing the leader with six points.

Meanwhile, in the girls section, the dream run of overnight sole C H Meghna of Kerala came to an end as she lost her seventh round match against top seed and World Under-8 Champion Ivana Maria Furtado of Goa in 67 moves.

Meghna and Ivana, along with Akhila S of Andhra Pradesh, Shiny Das of Tripura and Sribrinda Rout of Orissa were leading the table with six points each.

Akhila defeated Tejaswini Sagar of Maharashtra while Shiny Das overcame Shreya Sankalp of Bihar.

Sribrinda Rout defeated Saughanthika of Tamilnadu in the seventh round game.
