Anjali stresses on need for more shooting ranges

Nashik, July 2 (UNI) Shooting ace Anjali Bhagwat has said there was a need to build more shooting ranges in the country for practice and for nurturing new talent.

Addressing a gathering after inagurating a small-bore shooting range at Satpur club house here yesterday, Anjali said ''This is really a good shooting range. We spent 10 years struggling for gun ammunition and other facilities. Sometimes, I regret that had I not lost these 10 years, I would have achieved more.'' ''We, as seniors in the sport, will provide help to you in every aspect about your difficulties and queries,'' Anjali said and told the upcoming shooters that it was their responsibility to show their talent and prove themselves.

Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) Mayor Vinayak Pande, renowned sports psychologist Bhishmaraj Bam, Standing committee chairman Sharad Kophive and NMC commissioner Vilas Thakur were present on the occasion.

Mr Pande said he would try to provide weapons required for the shooting range. These include 3 rifles and 3 pistols.

Meanwhile, a state-level airweapon competition began at the shooting range from yesterday. Nearly 340 participants from all over Maharashtra will take part in the competition, including Anjali, Bollywood actor Nana Patekar, Ashok Pandit, Deepali Deshpande and Sheela Kango.

On July 4, a 'Champion of Champions' competition will be held. It will be followed by prize distribution ceremony.
