Ankita shines for India, wins bronze in Asian Junior TT Champs

New Delhi, July 29 (UNI) Ankita Das helped India register its first medal at 13th Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships in Hoengseong, Korea, as she won the bronze in the cadet girls singles event.

Ankita posted a thrilling six-game 11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8 victory over Lee Ho Ching of Hongkong to enter the semi-finals where she was outplayed by Chinese girl Chen Meng 0-4 (11-13, 4-11, 5-11, 2-11).

However, her quarter-final loss saw her clinch the broze medal and also a berth in the 2007 ITTF World Junior Championship Finals and World Cadet Challenge to be held at Cape Town, South Africa from October 23 to 28.

Meanwhile, the junior boys continued their disappointing outing in the championship with Sourav Saha, Soumyajit Ghosh and Sanil Shetty, all losing their respective matches today, according to information received here.
