Anwesha makes it to her first quarter finals, easy for Indians

Chennai, July 3 (UNI) Local girl Anwesha Reddy reached her first career quarter final in the US Dollar 8000 ICL Chennai Open PSA and WISPA Squash championship at the ICL Academy here today.

In her first round match, Anwesha defeated Russian Irian Assal in four games 9-4, 9-4,3-9, 9-1.

However, it was easy outings for other Indians with second seeded Joshna Chinappa and Asian Junior runner-up Dipika Pallikal who came through their first round matches with ease to enter the last eight stage.

Down 1-4 in the first, Anwesha started playing aggressively and used her back hand cross court flick to great effect to take a 2-0 lead.

Unforced errors saw Anwesha drop the third game 3-9. But she came back strongly to knot up the match in the fourth and confirm her berth in the quarters.

In the men's PSA event, another ICL academy trainee Harinderpal Singh ranked 143, who came through the qualifying rounds, lowered the colours of sixth seeded Shamshul Islam Khan of Pakistan in a thirlling four game contest.
