AP Govt mulls Sports Varsity

Hyderabad, Sep 26 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government is contemplating the establishment of university to promote Research and Development in the field of sports/games in a scientific and systematic manner.

The university would help study and analyse technical, nutrition and medical requirements of different sports.

The students of the proposed university will get theoretical and practical knowledge with the help of interaction with players, coaches, trainers and officials, a Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) press release here today said.

Meanwhile, SAAP plans to lease a part of the nine-storey sports tower at Gachibowli to a reputed hotel management group to raise the amount to meet loan repayment.

SAAP, which had constructed the tower besides sports complex to initially accommodate part of the fourth Military World Games 2007 participants and establish Centre of Excellence/Sports Academies later, had to avail loan from a bank to complete the project, due to financial constraints.

The authority would add another six floors to the Tower to accommodate inmates of the proposed Centre of Excellence/Sports Academies to put into use neighbouring sports infrastructure in Gachibowli.
