Archer Rahul Banerjee fails to make quarters

London, Jul 31: India's Rahul Banerjee bowed out of the individual archery competition at the London Olympics 2012 at the Lord's cricket ground on Tuesday.

Banerjee, who had earlier in the day, qualified for the round of 16, failed to repeat his performance.

The Indian archer went down 3-7 to Poland's Rafal Dobrowolski.

As the match got under way, it was the Polish archer who raced to a 3-1 lead. But Banerjee rallied to draw level.

Dobrowoski improved further in fourth and fifth sets as Banerjee was inconsistent there.

The winner hit more number of 10s, with six. Banerjee had four.

Banerjee started with 9, 10 and 9 in the first set. In the second his sequence was 7, 9, 9. In third, 9, 10, 10. In fourth and fifth it was (10, 7, 9) and (9, 8, 8).

Dobrowoski began with 10, 8, 10 then 10, 8, 9. Followed up those two string of scores with (8, 9, 9), (10, 9, 10) and (7, 9, 10).

Dobrowski scored 136 points while Banerjee had 133.
