In individual competitions, Priyansh Sharma has kept his hopes alive for an individual medal in the compound men's division. Displaying remarkable consistency, Priyansh advanced to the semifinals by defeating Germany's Sebastian Hamdorf (149-141), Mexico's Juan Del Rio (149-149, shoot-off 10-9), fellow Indian Prathamesh Fuge (149-148), and Turkey's Batuhan Akcaoglu (149-147).
He will face Denmark's Mathias Fullerton in the semifinals. However, Abhishek Verma, another contender, was eliminated by Akcaoglu with a score of 148-146.
In the women's individual events, Indian archers faced tough competition. V. Jyothi Surekha was narrowly defeated by Italy's Elisa Roner (147-145) in the third round. Aditi Swami lost to Paola Ramirez Gonzalez (142-140), and Parneet Kaur was beaten by USA's Alexis Ruiz (146-144) in the second round.
The Indian recurve teams also made significant strides. The women's recurve team, comprising Deepika Kumari, Bhajan Kaur, and Ankita Bhakat, after a first-round bye, defeated the Netherlands (6-2) and Ukraine (5-3) before narrowly losing to France in a shoot-off (5-4, 28-25) in the semifinals.
They later lost to Japan (6-0) in the bronze medal match. Despite this, their performance is expected to help secure an Olympic berth for Paris 2024.
On the men's side, the team of B. Dhiraj, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav, seeded sixth, received a bye but were defeated by the Netherlands (5-1) in the following round. Both the Indian men's and women's recurve teams are likely to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics through their world rankings, given that they have not yet secured qualification.
