Argentina to meet Netherlands in women's Champions Trophy final

Quilmes, Argentina, Jan 21 (UNI) Hosts Argentina outplayed title contenders Australia 3-0 in a brilliant display of hockey to qualify for the summit clash against the Netherlands in women's Champions Trophy here.

Needing only a draw to enter the final, the Argentines were, however, held at bay till late in the first half when penalty corner specialist Noel Barrionuevo sounded the board in the 34th minute.

Daniela Maloberti (42nd minute) and Agustina Bouza (62nd) then justified the domination by the Las Leonas by netting two more goals in the second half to the joy of partisan home supporters.

In another match on the last day of the pool encounters, Nadine Ernsting-Krienke's goal two minutes from time salvaged some pride for Olympic champions Germany as they drew with the Netherlands.

The Dutch, who were already through to the final, had surged ahead in the 31st minute through a Michelle van der Pols' goal.

Japan rode on a first-minute goal by Toshie Tsukui to record their first ever Champions Trophy win, defeating Spain 1-0 in the last match of the day.
