Army cruises into finals of Governor's Gold Cup

Gangtok, Oct 22 (UNI) Army XI today convincingly defeated Titanium (Kerela) 2-0 to nil to march into the finals of the 30th All India Govenor's Gold Cup being played here at the Paljor Stadium.

Striker MG Rana gave the Army XI the lead in the 59th minute. He latched on to a through ball from the midfield and despite being hemmed by two Titanium defenders, pushed the ball into the far end of the net.

His replacement, Somnath Das lashed a volley to score the second goal for the Army XI in the dying minutes of the game.

Army XI now await the winner of tomorrow's second semifinal match between Three Star Nepal and Tata Football Academy.

The final will be played on Saturday.
