Army supporting sports movement in Manipur

Imphal, Sep 10: The army in Manipur has intiated several measures at Bisenpur and Churachandpur districts in Manipur with a view to upgrade the sports facilities and infrastructure.

Army is planning to give training to the youth to increase their sporting skills, a PIB (Defence Wing) statement here said.

As a part of this project, 6 JAT under the Red Shield Division donated sports equipment to the Youth Clubs of Terakhongsangbi in Bishenpur and Nabil Khuman in Churachandpur districts.

Youth Clubs of Terakhongsangbi and Nabil Khuman are unique clubs that are encouraging literacy and sports in the remote areas. These clubs provide an opportunity to the children to seek education, promote sports and give vocational training to the youth so as to help them achieve higher standards in sports field and seek employment.

In order to encourage the clubs and to assist them in their social work, sports equipment, including volleyballs, nets, T-Shirts, shorts and stockings were donated to the clubs, the statement added.
