Army XI defeat Lajong in 2nd division league

Kochi, Mar 6 (UNI) Army XI today defeated Lajong Sport Club by a solitary goal in the cluster two match of the ONGC Second Division National Football League here.

The teams were tied goalless at the breather.

The all-important goal was scored by striker Thirunavukkarasu from a pass from mid-fielder Sammuel in the 58th minute.

The match failed to live up to expectations as both the teams adopted a defensive strategy.

Lajong made valiant efforts to restore parity with some effective moves in the dying moments but Army XI goalkeeper Roby Kanta Singh was equal to the task in thwarting them.

Yesterday, local club Viva Kerala drew with Indian Bank 2-2.
