Arsenal legend Sol Campbell set to visit Kolkata as Event Ambassador of Tata Steel World 25K Race

Arsenal legend Sol Campbell is set to grace the Meccah of Indian football as the Gunners legend will visit Kolkata in December.

The Tata Steel World 25K (TSW 25K) in Kolkata is set to welcome the Premier League icon as its International Event Ambassador for the 2024 race, which is set to take place on December 15 in the city of Joy. This event, acclaimed as the first World Athletics Gold Label 25K globally, continues to attract world-class athletes to West Bengal's rapidly growing running culture.

At 50, Campbell's enduring legacy as one of the most formidable defenders in football history. Sol Campbell's illustrious career began with Tottenham Hotspur, where he rose from the youth ranks to prominence.

His move to Arsenal from Spurs in 2001 was a pivotal moment that stirred considerable controversy due to the rivalry between the two North London clubs. Despite the uproar, his decision to join the Gunners was a massive success. With Arsenal, he was integral to the "Invincibles" squad who completed the 2003-04 season unbeaten, an unmatched feat in English football's history.

The Three Lions defender has been a stalwart of the game and will be attending the event in Kolkata.

"Coming to the City of Joy would be a huge pleasure. Being an Englishman, I know India through cricket, but I have heard that this city is known for its sport-loving people. I am excited to be in Kolkata, a sporting city and part of the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata, a race that has united the community and works towards a healthy and active life," said Campbell about his upcoming visit.

"Anyone who loves football has to love running, that is what makes you the best! So I call out to all the football and sports lovers in West Bengal and India to join me at the start line of Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata on Sunday, 15th December 2024," the Arsenal legend added.

The Arsenal legend is likely to arrive in Kolkata on December 14, a day before the race.
