EPL: Arsenal prepared to break club record for £40m Falcao

London, Feb 23: Arsene manager Arsene Wenger is prepared to break the clubs transfer record this summer by making a £40million signing in a bid to revive his team.

The Gunners boss, under immense pressure from fans after back-to-back home defeats to Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup and the Champions League loss to Bayern Munich, will be handed a huge transfer budget in the summer.

Arsenal went through a quiet transfer window in January and Wenger will be handed a £70million budget to completely change the clubs transfer policy. Wenger will look to defy his critics and show fans that they are equal in spending with clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea.

When asked if he would consider paying £40million to sign a player like Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, the Frenchman was confident.

"We can do it and if we can afford it, we will not say no", Wenger said ahead of his sides match against Aston Villa. "I am not reluctant to spend and if we find tomorrow a player of top, top, top quality, we will take him".

"We are in a stronger situation where we can spend some money. I'm not reluctant to do so. First of all, we only had money recently. We went out to spend money at Christmas but we didn't find the players," he said.

Wenger, who joined the club in 1996, is under pressure from fans but insisted he will not quit and take a decision on his future next year.

"I have never thought about throwing in the towel. I love winning, so I will carry on. I have a contract until 2014 and I will be here until then. I will make a decision on my future in 2014, not before," Wenger said.
