Arshad Nadeem: Honours to Cash Rewards - What Pakistan's History-Maker Will Receive For Paris Olympics Gold

By MyKhel Staff

Arshad Nadeem set to be honoured and rewarded after monstrous throw in the men's javelin throw event at Paris Olympics 2024 saw the Pakistan athlete create history as the first-ever gold medal winner in individual events.

The 27-year-old ended Pakistan's 40-year wait for a gold medal and 22-year wait for a medal at the Summer Olympics with a mammoth 92.97m throw, which also broke the Olympic record of 90.57m set at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

It was the first gold in 40 years for the country and the first-ever individual gold for Pakistan in their Olympic history since they started competing in 1948. Earlier, Pakistan had won three gold medals at the Games with all of them coming in hockey.

Before Nadeem's triumph, Pakistan had never won an individual gold medal in the Olympics. Only two Pakistani athletes had won individual medals of any colour - Mohammad Bashir's wrestling bronze in 1960 and Hussain Shah's boxing bronze in 1988.

After Arshad achieved this historic feat, Pakistan is set to reward and honour their Olympic champion with national honours, commemorative stamps and cash awards. Here is a look at what the Paris 2024 gold winner will receive from Pakistan as well as World Athletics:

What Arshad Nadeem will receive for Paris Olympics Gold?

Second Highest Honour and commemorative stamp: Pakistan will honour the ace athlete Arshad Nadeem with Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the second highest award of the country, for his stupendous feat.

The government also directed for a commemorative stamp titled 'Azm-e-Istehkam' (commitment to stability) to be issued on the occasion of the country's 77th Independence Day - August 14.

Following the directive by President Asif Ali Zardari, his office sent a letter to the Cabinet Division for the formal conferment of the award, according to state media.

"Arshad Nadeem's remarkable performance has made the nation proud on the global stage. His outstanding success in athletics is a source of pride for the country," President Zardari stated in his letter.

The civil award will be presented to Nadeem in a special ceremony by the president recognising his outstanding contributions in the field of sport.

Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed a commemorative stamp titled 'Azm-e-Istehkam' (commitment to stability) to be issued on the occasion of Pakistan's 77th Independence Day on August 14.

The stamp, bearing the title 'Azm-e-Istehkam' symbolises the nation's dedication to progress and stability. The design features Nadeem's image and also has an image of Minar-e-Pakistan, the symbol of national unity.

Arshad Nadeem's Cash Rewards: As a gold medalist in athletics event at Paris 2024 Olympics, Arshad Nadeem will receive USD 50,000 from the global body, World Athletics. Apart from that, the javelin thrower is set for more rewards from his home state.

Ever since his achievement at Paris, Nadeem has been showered with cash awards by Punjab, his home province, and other provincial governments and organisations.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday (August 9) announced a cash award of Rs 100 million (Pakistani Rupee), while the Pakistan Peoples Party's Sindh government announced Rs 50 million (Pakistani Rupee).

Golden Crown & other honours: The Sukkur city mayor has announced a 'gold crown' for Nadeem.
