Arunjith picks third gold in athletics

Guwahati, Feb 15 (UNI) National Games's fastest man S Arjunith picked up two more Gold medals as Kerala and Services shared the honour in the last day of the athletic competitions at the 33rd National Games here today.

Kerala picked up as many as five Golds in the last day to end the athletic events with 11 Gold, seven Silver and five Bronze. They were closely followed by services, which picked up six gold three silver and six Bronze.

But the star of the day was once again S Arunjith who after picking up the 100 M gold also picked up 200m and then in the 4x 100 m event, teaming up with Girish. V G. Vishwanathan, Ahammed Kabeer M C Ahammed, Roshan Issac John, picked up his third Gold.

He played a stellar role in the Kerala Gold, running the anchor role and with a blistering speed took his team home comfortably.

''I was not so satisfied with the timing. We dropped some time in the middle,'' he said.

Kerala's Preeja Sreedharan also picked up three golds for the state and she literally did not allow anyone to come near her in the middle distance event winning the 1500M, 5000M and 1000M.

This morning, after a heavy rain of last night, sun came out nicely and Kerala and Services dominated the show from the beginning. Day's first medal was picked up by Services through marathon where they picked up all the three medals. L Bening got the Gold with timing of 2hrs 17m 32 secs.
