Arvind Bhat wins Syria international title

Bangalore, Nov 2 (UNI) India's top international Arvind Bhat, on a comback trail after a long lay off due to injury, emerged the winner in the Satellite Series in Damascus, Syria recently.

Arvind scored an upset win over World Number 43 Pablu Abian of Spain in the last 16 stage of the tournament. Arvind beat the top seeded Spanish player 21-16, 21-16. He then went on to beat Niluka Karunarathne of Sri Lanka in the Quarter finals in three games. In the Semis, he defeated Ali Shah Hosseni, the Iranian No One in three games. In the finals Arvind beat Carlos Lango 21-16, 21-18.

This was Arvind's third title of the season after his wins in New Caledonia and Czech Open tournaments, according to a release from Tata Padukone Badminton Academy.

Arvind, currently ranked 123 in the world, would be playing another Satellite event in Jordan from November 3.
