Day 3 comes to an end with the culmination of the medal ceremony! Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Parul Chaudhary and Shaili Singh expectedly hog the limelight as they started as medal favourites on the day. First international senior Major medal for Shaili Singh!
After becoming the World U-20 Championship silver medal back in 2021, Shaili Singh wins her first major medal in the senior category. Aged just 19, it's certainly not her last major medal in the continent!
Tajinderpal Singh Toor collects another Asian gold medal!
2018 Asian Games, 2019 Asian Championships, 2023 Asian Indoor Championships, and finally 2023 Asian Championships, Tajinderpal Singh Toor has won gold medal in all and is the undisputed shot put king of the continent!
Parul Chaudhary collects gold medal
As the Indian events have ended for the evening, Parul Chaudhary is the first Indian to collect her gold medal as she emerged triumphant in the women's 3000m steeplechase. This was her second international gold medal of the season after winning the Track Night NYC in USA back in May.
Shaili Singh's continue strong show in 2023
Shaili Singh's first senior Asian medal, a silver medal, shows her strong show in the 2023 season as this was her fourth 6.50+ jump of the season. She improved on her 6.49m jump from Bhubaneswar last month and should be quite happy with her effort. Her 6.76m and 6.65m earlier in the season increased hopes but today was still a good result with World Championship approaching!

Shaili Singh takes the silver medal in the women's jump final following an effort of 6.54m. Japan's Sumire Hata was in a class of her own with an effort of 6.97m to win the gold medal. Ancy Sojan finishes fourth with an attempt of 6.41m

Swapna Barman lost her lead to defending champion Ekaterina Voronina as the Uzbek won the 200m heptathlon race in a close contest with Japan's Yuki Yamasaki. Barman could only finish fifth in the sprint.

Apologies for our earlier update, Tajinderpal Singh Toor didn't foul his third attempt and could be injured as he has skipped back-to-back attempts. He did show discomfort in walking following his second attempt and signalled something towards the stand.

Baranica Elangovan is struggling in the women's pole vault final as the athlete has fouled her first two attempts while going for 3.80m. She came at the Asian Championship with the aim of 4.30m.

Asian Athletics Championships 2023 Day 3 schedule
Note: All timings are as per local time, which are 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of IST
2018 Asian Games Champion Swapna Barman will make her return to the international stage as she will compete in her forte heptathlon event on Day 3 of the Asian Athletics Championship 2023 at the Supachalasai Stadium in Bangkok on Friday (July 14).
Among other big names competing in the day, the men's shot put final in the evening session will see Tajinderpal Singh Toor present his challenge for the gold medal after renewing the Asian and national record during the Inter-State Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar last month.
Also in the hunt for the gold medal would be prodigal talent Shaili Singh and her senior compatriot Ancy Sojan in the women's long jump final as 18 athletes will compete in the event after the qualifying session on Day 2 was called off.
Apart from the big names, the men's 400m hurdles morning session will see Yashash P and Santhosh KT compete in the qualifying heats while Parul Chaudhary will compete in the women's 3000m steeplechase final, along with Priti.
The men's steeplechase final will be without its star name Avinash Sable as he is training for the bigger events in the season while unheralded Bal Kishan and Mohammad Nurhasan will represent India instead after breaching the qualification standard during the Federation Cup in Ranchi.
India so far are third on the medal tally while tied for three gold medals with China while Japan are at the top with five gold. All three Indian gold medals came on Day 2 with 100m hurdle star Jyothi Yarraji winning the Asian crown in a rain-soaked race.
Ajay Kumar Saroj won the men's 1500 final while Commonwealth Games silver medallist Abdulla Aboobacker reigned supreme in the men's high jump final. Two bronze medals were also claimed on the day by Indians with high jump national record holder Tejaswin Shankar claiming podium place in decathlon while Aishwarya Mishra finished third in women's 400m final.
