Time to say goodbye as that was end of our coverage of the five-day Asian Athletics Championships 2023! India finish the tournament with 27 medals, 11 more than the last edition in 2019. The rich medal haul comes two months ahead of the Asian Games, making fans hopeful of a big show from the contingent at the Asian Games with Neeraj Chopra likely to join forces. The 400m relay team bears a new look as well with the likes of Muhammad Anas, Arokia Rajiv not making the cut for the event. The improved paces of youngsters Muhammad Ajmal and Rajesh Ramesh with Amoj Jacob as the most experienced member at 25, the squad will be expected to improve for good at the Asian Games.

India had a new-look women's 400m relay squad. Each member was competing for the first time at the Asian Championship following a dope suspension of star performer Anjali Devi and yet they return with a bronze medal. While the medal was a change in color from silver at the 2019 edition, the quartet will have to lay claim for the Asian Games gold medal for the record back-to-back six times! Krishan Kumar stepped into fill the big shoes of Jinson Johnson and the three-time national champion has now delivered his first major medal since winning the Qosanov Memorial gold medal last year! THe 25-year-old mid-distance runner will now have to prove his mettle at the Asian Games!

A big moment for middle-distance runner Kumari Chanda, who bags her first major medal in a silver medal in the women's 800m final. This is her third international medal overall as she grabbed double gold medals in Qosonav Memorial in Almaty last year!
With the men's relay silver, India's journey at the five-day Asian Athletics Championships came to an end as they finish the event with 26 medals. India couldn't improve on their third position on the final day due to lack of gold medals while China pulled away with at least two gold on the final day! Jyothi Yarraji lived up to the expectations the Asian Athletics Championships as she collects a 200m silver medal after winning the 100m hurdles gold two days ago. A talent worth keeping an eye on as Jyothi may replace a fading Hima Das as the new poster girl of Indian athletics at the new Asian Games!

SILVER MEDAL: India (Amoj Jacob, Muhammad Ajmal, Rajesh Ramesh, Mijo Chacko) 3:01.80 seconds

India lose gold medal to Sri Lanka in a closely fought final as Rajesh Ramesh loses lead to Kalinga Kumarage in the closing stages after Muhammad Ajmal put India up front in the second exchange of batton!

Fresh after mixed team gold yesterday! Amoj Jacob will start at lane 5 as the team's most experienced runner!

Overshadowed by the big presence of Neeraj Chopra, Manu DP celebrates his first international medal in an Asian Athletics silver medal! Plenty of silver today but no gold medals, that could change in the men's 400m relay final up next!

Abha Khatua (far left) and Manpreet Kaur have emerged as new shot-put talents of India. Especially Abha, who improved close to 2 meters on her personal best to clinch the silver medal! More of the same and India will have another medal opportunity at the Asian Games in about two months!

Subha Venakteshan certainly has been the surprise package of the season as she had two crucial races (mixed 400m relay earlier) to help Indian quarter-milers bag two crucial medals. India now has two months time to prepare a women's relay team that can retain the relay title for a record sixth time. Aishwarya Mishra, Subha will certainly hold a key to that!

Subha Venkatesh, and Aishwarya Mishra help India recover to the bronze medal after youngster Reozana Mallick provided a poor start to the team. Venkatesh surpassed second-placed Japan in the closing stages but was surprised by the Sri Lankan runner, who went past her right after! What a breathe-taking race that was!

Teenager Rezoana Mallick will start in lane 5 for India. The runner had a tough domestic season as she struggled to finish in the podum!
India is represented by Aishwarya Mishra, Subha Venkateshan, Rezoana Mallick Heena, and Jyothika Sri Dandi in the run! It's interesting to see how the team reacts after losing their lead runner Anjali Devi to doping suspension!

Big moment for Gulveer Singh, whose good show in the domestic sesaon (double gold in 5000m & 10000m at Federation Cup) bears fruit in his first international medal in bronze at the men's 5000m final. He earlier finished fifth in the 10000m final on Day 1!

Silver medallist Parul Chaudhary and Ankita stand on the podium together as this is the first time in Asian Athletics Championships 2023 that two athletes won medals in the same event!

That was Championship record timing from Shanti Perriera while Jyothi Yarraji claims the silver medal! Could be a rivalry to look forward to in seasons to come, depends if Jyothi is too keen on sprints with hurdles being her forte!

Jyothi Yarraji shows sportsman spirit as she hugs her Singapore rival with a smile as Perriera clocks a splendid 22.70 seconds to clinch the final! Yarraji, a hurdler at heart, should be satisfied as she will return home with a silver and a gold earlier!
Jyothi Yarraji clocks another personal best in 200m with a timing of 23.13 seconds but finishes second behind Singapore's Shanti Pereira, who earlier won the 100m gold! Some run from Perriera, who defeated her Indian rival by a distance!

Army runner Gulveer Singh bags his first international medal as the distance runner finishes third in the men's 5000m final dominated by Japanese duo Hyuga Endo (gold) and Kazuya Shiojiri! The complete results to follow soon! Up next is Jyothi Yarraji in women's 200m final!

Nice India-Pakistan duel between Manu and Yasir at the end as the young Indian javelin thrower bags his first international medal. Knowing the athlete, he would have been happier to breach the Olympic qualification standard of 85.50m with his personal best being an 84.35m from last season!

There comes another medal for India as Manu DP improves to 81.01m in his final throw after Pakistan's Muhammad Yasir took him off the spot with a throw of 79.93m! Japan's Roderik Genki takes gold!

India started the final day of the Asin Athletics Championships 2023 at the Suphachalasai Stadium in Bangkok on a strong note with 20km racewalk national record holder Priyanka Goswami winning the silver medal while Vikash Singh collected the bronze medal in the men's event as both events took place early in the morning (4:30 AM IST).
The evening session of Day 5 is all about finals with all eyes on Asian hurdle queen Jyothi Yarraji. The 100m hurdle champion will be competing in the 200m final and set the track on fire with her personal best of 23.29 seconds in the semifinal heats the other evening. The final is scheduled at 4:10 PM IST.
The evening session begins at 2:40 PM IST with Manpreet Kaur and Abha Khatua competing in the women's shot put final. The men's 800m final begins five minutes late with Krishan Kumar and Mohammed Afsal competing in the men's 800m final. Krishan was fastest in heat 1 while Afsal was the second qualifier from heat 2.
The men's javelin throw will begin at 2:50 PM IST with Manu DP being the sole Indian representation. While we are yet to see a India vs Pakistan clash at the tournament but the men's javelin final will also see Pakistan's Mohammad Yasir in competition to spice up things!
National record holder Parul Chaudhary will compete in the women's 5000m final, along with Ankita at 3:05 PM IST. This will be Parul's second shot at a medal at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 as she earlier won a gold medal in her forte 3000m steeplechase event. 10000m bronze medallist Abhishek Pal, along with Gulveer Singh, will be in action again as he competes in the men's 5000m final at 3:50 PM IST.
Asian Athletics Championships 2023 will culminate with the women's and men's 4x400 relay finals with India's name entered in both the events. The women's final begins at 4:50 PM and will have the likes of Aishwarya Mishra, Subah Venkateshan, Rezoana Mallick Heena and Jyothika Sri Dandi in the squad.
The India men's 400m, competing at 5:15 PM IST, looks better quipped for a medal with a strong line-up of Rajesh Ramesh, Muhammad Ajmal, Amoj Jacob, Micho Chacko and Nihal Joel Williams.
