Asian champion Pankaj gets better of Rafat

Pune, Jun 10 (UNI) Asian champion Pankaj Advani of Bangalore got the better of a resolute Rafat from Chennai, in a tight tie at 112-0, 70-14, 0-88, 08-77, 77-43 and breezed into the last eight of the Manisha invitation prize money snooker tournament at the Poona Club tables here.

The double national champion Advani started off in a brilliant fashion notching a break of 108 in the opening frame, missing a comparatively easy pot and muffed up the highest break of 148, which was on the card. He won at 112-08, (108)70-14, 0-88, 8-77 and 77-43.

Later talking to UNI, Pankaj said though he was totally focussed, he could not control the shot. ''I am not disheartened and would go all out in the next round,'' Pankaj said.

Aditya Mehta beat Rupesh Shah 24-77, 57-13, 69-9, 52-20, R Giri (TN) beat Varrun Taneja (Delhi) 20-72, 53-16, 23-65, 63-57, 54-15.

Sandip Gulati ( Del) beat Tahu padhye69-35,66-76,61-23 Manan Chandra ( Del) beat Ashok Syhandalya (Rly) 54-70, 81-53, 91-21, 91-4.
