Hangzhou, October 5: Indian women's compound archery team comprising Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Gopichand and Parneet Kaur defeated Chinese Taipei team to win gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou on Thursday (October 5).
The trio of Jyothi, Aditi, and Parneet beat Chinese Taipei's Yi-Hsuan Chen, I-Jou Huang, and Lu-Yun Wang by a scoreline of 230-229. The Korean team, who were the favourites, had to settle for a bronze.

In the first set of the gold medal match, the Chinese Taipei opponents gave a tough fight and won it by 54-56, but from set 2, the Indian trio dominated the remainder match to clinch the second gold medal in archery at Hangzhou 2022.
Earlier in the quarterfinal round of the compound women's team event, Jyothi Surekha-led India's women's archery team defeated Hong Kong by 231-220 to advance their way into the next round of the tournament.
Even though Hong Kong's Hung Ting Cheng, Yuk Sheung Wong, and Yin Yi Luk gave a tough fight in the match, the Indian archers made no mistake to seal a win.
In the semifinal match of the event, Jyothi, Aditi, and Parneet defeated Indonesia's Ratih Zilizati Fadhly, Syahara Khoerunisa, and Sri Ranti by 233-219. India dominated the game from the very first minute and bagged 60 points in the first set.
The Indian Men's compound team featuring Ojas Deotale, Abhishek Verma and Prathamesh Jawakar bagged a gold medal following a 235-230 win over South Korea in the final on Thursday (October 5).
The trio of Deotale, Verma and Jawkar dominated right from the start to take end 1 with a score of 58-55, but the Korean trio of Joo Jae-hoon, Yang Jae-won and Kim Jong-ho fought back to edge end 2 with a score of 59-58.
However, the Indian trio were faultless in the remainder of the match, winning end 3 by 59-57 and end 4 by 60-59 to bag a clean sweep in the compound archery team events.
Earlier on Wednesday (October 4), Vennam and Deotale clinched a gold in the mixed team compound archery event after winning the final match against South Korea's Chaewon So and Jaehoon Joo at the 19th Asian Games.
India currently stands in fourth place with a total of 84 medals, which includes 21 gold, 31 silver, and 32 bronze medals. This is India's best-ever haul in the continental event.
The Compound archery team are expected to add more medals in the individual events as Surekha Vennam is in the gold medal match, while Aditi will be fighting for the bronze in the women's individual event.
Deotale and Verma will battle for gold in the men's individual event, after the duo booked a final showdown following wins in their respective semifinal matches earlier in the week.
