Asian Games 2023: India's Men Trap Team Win Record-Breaking Gold, Women's Team Win Silver

Hangzhou, October 1: India's shooters continued to dominate in Asian Games 2023 on Sunday (October 1) as Kynan Darius Chenai, Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Prithviraj Toindaman clinched the gold medal in men's trap team event with a games record total of 361.

The Indian trio combined to take India's medals in shooting at Hangzhou 2022 event to 21. Team Kuwait bagged silver with a total of 359, while China won bronze with a total of 354.

Darius Chenai qualified for the individual final with a total of 122, which was the most for any shooter in the qualification phase 2. Sandhu also qualified for the final with 120 points, while Toindaman finished with 119 points. Sandhu, however, needed to clear the shootoff to finish second in the qualification standings.

Meanwhile, the team of Manisha Keer, Preeti Rajak and Rajeshwari Kumari bagged the silver medal in women's trap team event with a total of 337. China clinched gold with a world record total of 357. Kazakhstan finished one shy off India to settle for bronze.

Keer also qualified for the individual final after shootoff with a total of 114. Rajak finished 9th with 112, while Kumari finished 11th with 111, meaning the duo missed out on reaching the individual final which is scheduled for later on Sunday (October 1).

These two medals have take Indian shooting medal tally at the Asian Games 2023 to 21 - 7 gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze. The individual finals will be the final shooting event at the Hangzhou 2022 event.

Earlier on Saturday (September 30), the Indian shooting duo of Sarabjot Singh and Divya Subbaraju secured a silver medal in the mixed 10m air pistol team event with a total of 14 points.

The Indian duo fell short just by two points of a gold medal, which was bagged by China, who secured a total of 16 points to get the top prize in the final. Iran and Korea won the bronze medal in the event.

Away from shooting, India added a historic silver in golf on Sunday (October 1) with Aditi Ashok becoming the first-ever Indian woman to win a medal in golf at the Asian games. Now, India's medal tally at the Asian Games is at total of 41 medals, with 11 gold, 16 silver and 14 bronze medals.
