Asian Games 2023: Indian men's, women's roller skating teams bag bronze in speed skating 3000m relay events

Hangzhou, October 2: Indian roller skaters clinched two bronze medals in men's and women's 3000m team relay events to match their best ever performance at the Asian Games 2023 on Monday (October 2).

The women's team of Sanjana Bathula, Karthika Jagadeeswaran, Heeral Sadhu and Aarathy Kasturi Raj opened India's account on the ninth day of competitions, finishing with a timing of 4:34.861s.

The Indian quartet finished behind gold medallists Chinese Taipei, who clocked 4:19.447 and silver medallists South Korea, who clocked 4:21.146.

Earlier on Monday (October 2), Aryanpal Singh Ghuman, Anandkumar Velkumar, Siddhant Kamble and Vikram Ingale qualified for the medal round by finishing second in the semifinal behind South Korea with a timing of 4:15.126.

The Indian quarter later in the day sealed a second bronze for the country with a timing of 4:10.128 in men's team relay. Chinese Taipei (4:05.692) and South Korea (4:05.702) took the top-two spots.

"India's Aryan Pal, Anand Kumar, Siddhant, and Vikram have rolled their way to BRONZE in the Men's Speed Skating 3000m Relay, clocking an incredible time of 4:10.128! Let's give them a roaring applause for their amazing achievement!," tweeted SAI Media.

This takes India's overal skating medal in the continental event to four, having previously won two bronze medals at the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games in men's free skating and pairs skating events.

These two medals also took India's tally to 55 - 13 Gold, 21 Silver and 21 Bronze at the Hangzhou 2022 games as the country's push for the best-ever haul of over a 100 medals in the continental event gets closer.
