Asian Games 2023 Highlights, September 29: Indian athlete resume their search for medals on Day 6 of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou after the nation bagged its sixth gold medal earlier on Day 5. Medal Updates from the day below:


A day full of medals for India as shooters bagged two gold and two silver each while Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni bagged the first tennis medal in a silver. The medal surge is expected to increase further with athletics events starting. More of that tomorrow onwards as we call it a night!

Kiran Baliyan claims the last spot on the podium behind the two Chinese shot putters while her compatriot Manpreet Kaur finished fifth with an attempt of 16.25m! Baliyan also scripts history as she became the first woman shot putter to win a medal since 1951 Asiad!
Kiran Baliyan puts herself in the medal position with a brilliant throw of 17.36m. Her personal best of 17.93m came earlier this month in Chandigarh meanwhile Chinese shot putters are dominating the event. Lijiao Gong is at the top with four 19+ throws out of five while leading at 19.58m while Jiayuan Song is at 18.92m!
In the final of the Men's 200m Butterfly, Indian swimmer Sajan Prakash finished seventh with a timing of 1:57.44. Sajan was 4.29 seconds behind gold winner Tomoru Honda from Japan who finished in a Games record time of 1:53.15.

After the women's team secured a bronze medal earlier in the day, Indian men's team has qualified for the final by defeating Malaysia in the semifinals. Senior Indian squash player Saurav Ghoshal defeated Eain Yow NG in the team event 3-1 and helped his team take an unassailable 2-0. Ghoshal bt Eain Yow - 3-1 (11-8, 11-6, 10-12, 11-3).
India's women hammer throwers Tanya Chaudhary and Rachna Kumari had ordinary performances to finish seventh and ninth respectively in the final of the Women’s Hammer Throw. Tanya threw a distance of 60.50 while Rachna managed a 58.13. Gold and silver went to China's Zheng Wang and Jie Zhao respectively. South Korea's Taehui Kim won bronze.

Sourav Ghoshal is currently in action and leading the second game 5-3 after winning the first game against Yow Eain. India already have a 1-0 lead in the semifinal as Abhay Singh earlier defeated Addeen Idrakie 11-3, 12-10, 9-11, 11-6
India go top of the table with a big 6-0 win over Malaysia. The 6-0 victory comes after 13-0 mauling of Singapore in the first Pool match, which means India now have a +19 goal difference.

Aishwarya Mishra clocks her personal best of 52.73 seconds to qualify for the women's 400m final. She finished behind Bahrain's Asian record holder Salwa Eid Nasser, who clocked 52.52 seconds. Her compatriot Kemi Adekoya set the pace with a brilliant 50.53 seconds, which was also her personal best. India's Himanshi Malik failed to make the cut with a disappointing timing of 57.82 seconds

National record holder Muhammad Anas couldn't progress to the final as he clocked 46.29 seconds. Youngster Muhammad Ajmal sealed his among the top eight as an automatic qualifier with a timing of 45.76 seconds while finishing second in Heat 2. Japan's Kentaro Sato and Sri Lanka's Kalinga Kumarage dominated the heat with a timing of 45.57 seconds each!

Nikhat Zareen was unstoppable in her women's 50kg quarterfinal bout against Jordan's Nassar Hanan as India won the bout in just 53 seconds in the first round. The referee stopped the contest (RSC) sensing danger for the Jordanese boxer! With the win, Nikhat assures bronze at least but the World Champion won't settle for anything less than the gold medal with 2024 Paris Olympics spot at stake!

Achanta Sharath Kamal loses to Chinese Taipei's CHUANG Chih-Yuan in the men's singles pre-quarterfinals 7-11, 10-12, 11-9, 5-11, 12-10, 11-6, 8-11. India's men's singles challenge ends with the loss
India score just once in the next 15 minutes after scoring four in the 1st quarter! Sangita Kumari scored the sole goal from the penalty corner!

Two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen will be in action soon as she competes against Jordan's Nassar Hannan in the women's 50kg quarterfinal!
David Beckham and Esow Alben are out of the medal run as they finished fifth and sixth respectively in the first heat of the Men’s Keirin Semifinal. The result wasn't enough to find a placce in the final as Beckham finish +0.922 seconds behind the leader while Esow was +2.980 seconds behind.

Wang Chuqin finally puts Sathiyan out of his misery with a straight-game victory in the pre-quarters. The Chinese wins in straight games 11-3, 11-3, 11-6, 11-3. That was last match for Sathiyan at the Asian Games 2023, who is out of every draws he entered.

Lakshya Sen comfortably beats Prince Dahal 21-5, 21-8 to give India 1-0 lead in the best-of-five tie. Dahal looked out of his depth against the former All-England bronze medallists. Next up is Kidambi Srikanth against Sunil Joshi in the second singles
