Asian Games 2023: Nandini Agasara - Telangana Tea seller's daughter shines with bronze-medal finish in Heptathlon

Nandidi plunged into the world of athletics merely four years ago, when she began practising at Gachibowli stadium in April 2018. Intrigued by her talent, one of the assistant coaches introduced her to head coach Nagapuri Ramesh. Consequently, under the expert guidance of Ramesh, Nandidi's career trajectory in the field of athletics began rising astronomically. She impressively bagged 10-12 medals annually, and remarkably won a national medal merely three months after joining the academy. Her most crowning achievement, however, has been winning the bronze medal in the heptathlon at the Asian Games 2023.

Battles Outside the Track

Nandini's success came about not without struggles. In December 2021, she contracted typhoid and was struck by Covid-19 before she had fully recovered. But even the wretched sting of such sickness couldn't dampen Nandini's indomitably high spirit. Despite wrestling with these physical illnesses, she remained diligent in continuing her athletics training. The next challenge that Nandini encountered was a grade 2 hamstring tear which took a severe mental toll on her. Nonetheless, she overcame this tribulation as well with the help of her inspiring coach, Nagapuri Ramesh.

A Star in the Making

Nandini's extraordinary resolve and tenacity stunned everyone when, just a month post her recovery, she delivered an excellent performance at the Under 20 World Federation trials in June 2022. Nandidi's superior performance earned her a spot in the Under 20 Junior World Athletics Championship, and she was the sole athlete selected from Telangana.

Success Beyond Sports

Nandini's endeavours haven't been confined to the sports field. Amidst her demanding training regime, she secured 75% marks in her second year of intermediate, thus registering equally impressive accomplishments in academics.
