Asian Games 2023: Palak wins record-breaking gold in 10m Air Pistol, Esha Singh wins silver

Teenagers Palak and Esha Singh on Friday (September 29) continued the Indian shooters' unprecedented run at the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou after bagging a gold and silver in women's 10m Air Pistol individual event.

17 year old Palak secured a gold medal with a new Asian Games record individual score of 242.1 points, while 18 year old Esha secured a silver medal with 239.7 points. Paksitan's Kishmala Talat bagged bronze with 218 points.

This one-two podium finish takes India's Asian Games 2023 medal tally in shooting to 17 with 6 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze. This was also Palak and Esha's second medal of the day with duo also winning the 10m Air Pistol Team event silver.

Esha, Palak and Divya Subbaraju bagged the team event silver with a total of 1731 points, just shy of five points for gold, which was won by China with 1736 points. Chinese Taipei secured the bronze medal with 1723 points.

The 18-year-old Esha now has four medals in the ongoing Asian Games. She first won the women's 25m pistol team gold with Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan before winning a silver in the individual event.

Also on Friday (September 29), the men's trio of Swapnil Kusal, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Akhil Sheoran clinched a gold medal in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men's Team event.

With a score of 1769 points, Team India secured the gold. The silver medal was won by 1763 points and the bronze medal went to South Korea with 1748 points. With their score, India also broke the world record of 1761 points held by the USA since last year.

India now has a total of 30 medals at the Asian Games, with eight gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals. This tally of 17 medals is the best ever in the discipline for India in Asian Games.

The Indian contingent will look to add more medals in shooting as the men's 50m rifle 3 position shooters Tomar and Kusale will be competing in men's individual final.
