Asian Games 2023: Sift Kaur Samra wins 50m Rifle 3 Positions Gold; Ashi Chouksey Bags Bronze

Sift Kaur Samra and Ashi Chouksey on Wednesday (September 27) bagged the gold and silver medals respectively in the Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions individual event in the ongoing the Asian Games 2023, taking India's medal tally to 18 in Hangzhou.

Sift, who qualified for the individual final with a games record score of 594, clinched India's third gold medal in shooting, and the overall fifth yellow metal for the country, with the a world record breaking score of 469.9.

The world record was previously held by Great Britain, while the Asian record was held by China and the Asian Games record was previously held by Mongolia.

China's Qiongyue Zhang won the silver with a score of 462.3, while Ashi, who won her third medal at the event, finished with a score of 451.9 to win a bronze. Ashi had won a silver in the 10m air rifle event and also the silver in the 50m rifle 3p with Sift.

Earlier on Wednesday (September 27), Sift and Ashi were part of the silver-winning Indian Women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions team that also included Manini Kaushik. The trio finished with a total score of 1754 points, just 19 shy of China, who won gold.

Just moments after the 50m Rifle 3P team won silver, the Women's 25m Pistol trio of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Rhythm Sangwan clinched India's fourth gold medal at the ongoing continental event with a total score of 1759 points, three more than second-placed China.

Earlier in the Asian Games 2023, the team of Divyansh Singh Panwar, Rudrankksh Patil, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar had captured a world-record-breaking gold in men's 10 metre air rifle team.

Also in the women's 10 m air rifle team, the trio of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal and Ashi Chouksey had got a silver. Ramita also secured a bronze medal in the women's 10 m air rifle individual event.

APS Tomar had also won a bronze in the men's 10 m air rifle individual event. The men's 25 m rapid-fire pistol trio of Adarsh Singh, Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish Bhanwala had also got a bronze to their name.
